My theory about boom "web developement" is about "boom of web technology". Logic … 4G->5G … this change it creates new opportunities to mobiel devices new opportunities require "new software" etc etc.

80% of the "coders" I work with have no clue about how to design good systems, much less what end to end, or Software Engineering is for that matter. We don't need another "boom". This is getting ridiculous. Get an Engineering Degree and learn how to think beyond lines of code and coloring boxes.

Web design and dev is about to boom? lol what? Ok well guess I'll stop being an mobile developer…

i'm sure freelancers struggle as well during Covid even if you have 'regular' clients. We all depend on each other at the end of the day. If your clients don't make money, they have no money to give you.

Thoughts on Blazor Web Assembly? Microsoft seems to be pushing it hard going forward. I like what I see from it so far.

Definitely learn soft skills. Having a good video conferencing presence, being able to have good communication with the client, project management, all go a LONG way to pleasing the client beyond just knowing how to design a website.

What's your opinion on the market for Web Design (WP, Wix, Shopify, etc.) Vs. Custom Web App development (from scratch for clients needing a specialized & complicated app)?

Another thing that's blowing up right now is knowledge of Dev Ops and automation testing, and this is because of the enormous growth of the use of technology.

People didnt get laid off very much in Europe because its very hard to fire people here :). I know actually noone who got laid of because of Covid here in Stockholm

I am in the web development industry and have been for 20 years and I have a different opinion on this. AI is on the verge of replacing the average web developer that makes sites for small companies. There are video examples on YouTube of AI creating a website that is passable as a professionally designed site and it was created by literally dictating what you want to it in normal English. Extrapolate this across the next 10 years and add all the new people in the industry due to COVID, the people that are now becoming web developers. I am afraid there is a lot of disruption coming in our industry which is why I have moved more towards management and security. More consistent and less replaceable.

@18:45 "i've been saying for quite a while, for mobile web is going to be predominate method" … thing is that native has always been the thing. I actually looked into PWA and they fully, completely suck. I actually wanted to get them a try, and they suck. They aren't going to replace native and people want native 100:1.

I am sorry to differ with you. I don't think web development is going to boom,it will just exist like any other field , it is just like saying accountant jobs are going to boom, the domains that are going to shine in the future are AI, Block chain, IOT, Machine Learning, cybersecurity, Data science, computer Networking

The web development market is already crowded, given the number of frameworks, serverless, headless, CMS, and a ton of other crap, it will become more and more difficult for newbies to break into this field, for anyone who is trying to kickstart their dev career web development is not a fancy option anymore, I suggest them to focus on the above fields I mentioned.

Although the consequences of Covid 19 are the same in Europe too, the cultural shift from office-based to work from home is not really happening.
There is too much resistance to change in Europe.
