With the onset on new applications and platforms these roles are getting closer and closer. Platforms such as WordPress and Wix are making web design more accessible than ever without the need of a DEEP knowledge of coding.
Now, can anyone jump on one of the platforms and produce a website, well sure, but it takes a real designer to establish a quality product that follow brand identity and goals. This is why web designers and graphic designers a like are so important.
Let’s talk about graphic designers vs web designers.
It’s really simple!
Graphic designers main role, without blurring any lines or making them do something that is not in there wheel house is as follows:
Logo design, advertising design, print design (including magazine layout, book layout, annual reports, and so forth), web banners, as well as branding. So basically anything that involves creative problem solving that includes the intangible and intangible layout of elements (line, color, imagery, illustrations, shape, text, etc…)
Web designer, well they design websites. It’s that simple. They do not know a DEEP a mount of code, but they do know enough to make themselves dangerous with a wordpress theme.
I have a firm understanding a how to create wordpress websites. It is my personal opinion that it is extremely helpful for graphic designers to understand how to design websites. Why? Brand consistency. If I am designing a logo, letterhead, business card, and some ads for a company it only makes sense that I would have the firmest grip on the design aesthetics to carry the branding across multiple design pieces.
Are graphic designers and web designers the same? Not at all! But it is my opinion that a graphic designer who can perform web design skills is extremely beneficial and has greater usefulness to a client.

Web designers need to code too lol html csd JavaScript is considered as basic these days
I read somewhere along the lines, that it is helpful if web designers know code. And that the web designers that know code get paid more than the ones that don't.

What are some skills that an Ui designer can have to make themselves stand out?
I know as an Ui designer you need to think about user experience, but besides that, what are things that distinguish the differences between a graphic designer and an Ui designer? It just seems to me that whoever is very good at graphic design can easily pick up a Ui designer role??

Hi Ben. I am torn between choosing Graphic Design and Web Design as my major. I have always enjoyed the design aspect, and creating content on the web. I was the design editor in Yearbook throughout high school. I also used to use codes to design my MySpace page daily! Lol. I saw you say that Web Design brings in more money than Graphic Design…
With that being said, my community college offers both. Do you think I should give Web Design a shot??

Thanks for this video! Im at a bit of a crossroads. I have a choice between earning a free a Web Design & Animation certificate… and earning a graphic design certificate. I'm an artist so i'm naturally inclined to go with the graphic design course but i can't help feeling like earning a GD certificate wouldn't get me anywhere unless i go to college an earn a degree. But Web design is a great skill to have and the industry pays more….. I wanna take them both but i can't..

I actually graduated with a bachelor's degree in finance, but then decided to do a gap year before doing my master's. During my gap year, I have started exploring other fields; like graphic design and video editing. I am new to your channel, and I find your videos very interesting because you always bring different perspectives to a subject.
