This topic is always a great one for discussion. Oftentimes, I invite others interested in this subject to read "A company of one" by Paul Jarvis. It's an honest look at why being intentially small is the future. Even some corporation who handle many brands (A house of brands) will present some of the brands as being small.
In my view, the book made a lot of sense and this is where I am today – I own and present myself as a brand strategist + designer as a business but I let my clients know that I am a one man band and provide them with a realistic and tranparent list of all the services I can do for them.
