Photoshop in Web Design in 2022?

@Stefan Mischook what do you use personally instead of psp and Illy please?

I use photoshop to design the site and it helps me a lot to export the bg images to WordPress, that is what I use to make websites. I can work with figma but I just prefer photoshop

I disagree, Photoshop is still relevant in web design and always will be. When creating a UI, a large part of that UI is represented by images, and the ability to manipulate those images at will is a significant advantage Photoshop users have over Figma users. I understand your point, but people should know that if they do not know what Photoshop has to offer, they are missing out on a lot of knowledge and techniques that every web designer should be able to master.

One of the tests I used to give to people that I hired is for them to try and make a shadow for a car in perspective with reflexions also. 90% of them didn't know how to do this because they were to vector-oriented and didn't know anything about raster pixel manipulation.

The most time-consuming step when creating a User Interface is finding the perfect images for that Layout, it sometimes takes more time to find an image than you take to create a whole wireframe. So knowing how to manipulate an image can be a real time-saver.

Stef, I'm learning JavaScript as my first language because I have something I really want to try and build. I didn't know JavaScript had backend frameworks. Can I use something like that for my backend work or am I missing something entirely. Thank You

I'm doing the unthinkable… I'm learning Learning HTML, CSS, & Javascript so that I can learn HTML Canvas and… become a Creative Coder (Generative Art) take it as a hobby/challenge… maybe turn it into a side-hustle if I get lucky. I realized that I had memory in the late 90s on legit building a website with only barebones knowledge of HTML I've had. I even did the build a WordPress website back in the circa 2006?🤔

I heard thru the grapevine that people do mockups in Figma. My only knowledge of Figma is the commercial in Youtube… and Medium. You can even No-Code build a website there too right?

I started my first job at a Webdev firm in India in the early 2000s. We would make the mockups of the site in photoshop, give the client 2-3 options on which a design signoff was necessary. Then we would slice and dice the PSD which would go for development of the site in all it's 800 x 600 glory. For some reason, the final site would never resemble the PSD/JPG 100% and I had to take the heat for the client grumbles and complaints. Thanks for the memories Uncle Stef. On the design front, would also like to hear your opinions about Adobe borging Figma, when they had an identical product like Xd.

I remember using Dreamweaver and Fireworks in the early 00's for web design, back then still part of Macromedia, who also had Flash. Back then, Fireworks was a lot more aimed at web designers than Photoshop was (not sure Ps even had slicing back then). Of course, after Adobe bought them, Fireworks stopped being supported.

And yeah, these days you can do everything and more with just CSS, and make them responsive (adjust to the device), while the old tools were focussed on having pixel perfect website design.

I remember trying Figma beta years ago when it just came out to the public. Coming from designing websites in Photoshop to Figma was like walking all the time and figuring one day that you can run. Now with years of improvement, refinement and plugins there is no comparison between the two, one is for photos and one is for UI.

Most CMS's nowadays like WordPress and Square Space have drag and drop design tools, further negating the need for Photoshop. I still optimize images though outta habit.

I remember back in 2007, our professor would ask us to make webpages using Photoshop, and we would use tools in them to link multiple webpages. Also Freewebs! Fun times 🤣
