Layout design can be tricky to many designers, but today I will be showing you a step-by-step process for creating the perfect layout on your designs, each and every time. Also we will make great use of the Visual Attention Software (VAS) by 3M, as a means to make sure we are grabbing the attention of the viewer, and directing their gaze around our design efficiently.

You can learn more about VAS by visiting https://vas.3m.com and sign up for a free trial. You can also use promo code “Thomas” for five extra free trial credits when you sign up.

When embarking on a new design project, you will want to consider the layout as one of the most important aspects of the entire process, from start to finish. In the video we walk through that process starting with grids, and then heading onto aspects such as hierarchy, alignment, negative space and so on. The grid is one of the most helpful methods of getting all of this correct, and it can be considered much like the backbone of your layout, or the foundation of a successful graphic design. Layout design cannot and should not be ignored or underestimated.

If you found today’s video on layout design enjoyable or useful, let me know in the comments section and drop a like on your way out. Subscribe to stay updated to all of my uploads and until next time, design your future today, peace.

  1. I'm almost finished with my graphic memoir of how I used my health and fitness knowledge to stop my mother with mild dementia from forgetting me, and it worked. I tricked her off caffeine, then no prescription meds, forced her/tricked her/incentivized her to drink water, kept her away from high fructose corn syrup and other poison, because they made her mean and delusional, and kept her away from gluten. I labeled layers by text vs. images, and then by page number, and all of that is linked through word. When I add in pages, it becomes all scrambled. I thought writing this memoir digitally would be faster, but I don’t think so anymore. I did spend time going through all of my layers in every document in my 250-page book, renumbering the layers according to the new page number, but now reviewing all of my journals, I need to add in more. Do you have any suggestions for organizing?

  2. This is a very useful video content. its worth the time to watch while the people in design field and your communication through your presentation style are really good to watch ….Thanks for the video😀

  3. You don’t like the Golden Ratio 🙀 dude you’re missing out on perfection. Have a think about following the universe. 👌🏼 Maybe research the Fibonacci sequence and phyllotaxis those topics could spark some interest. Or Leonardo Davinci’s work. Our studio was named Australian designer of the year last year and we use it in nearly every piece of creative we do. Calculating it for proportion in logos, type scales, image cropping and general spacing. Love the channel mate keep up the great work.

  4. Hi, Mr Satori Do you host classes for these Adobe Designs. I just started working with Indesign but I follow up well on YouTube with PS and Illustrator classes of yours. Kindly respond thank you.

  5. Thank you for all your teaching videos. Can yoiu recommend a graphic design software for a 70 year old noobie, whose is a slow software learner? My project is to offer free English language education worldwide via gaming. Currently I must create an EPK for sponsor institutions expressing interest. I have some ideas that I miss I could include here. Also do you do private consulatations?

  7. I am so sad that I have found out this video so late and the code was already expired for the VAS free subscription account. Thank you for the great content. As a person who doesn't come from a design field and who self teaches, your videos mean a lot to me! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
