  1. Serious messaging about marriage and lasting relationships get badly diluted in the film because the filmmakers overdosed on the boisterousness to cover up awkwardness around these matters and also to make the movie appealing to an audience too young or immature to understand the seriousness of the topic.

In many places, the handling of the story seemed too simplistic. Like Neetu Singh rattling off "wifely" duties as if she were a nurse, Tisca Chopra laughing too much like a hyena and then just signing off saying I cannot play nursemaid to an aged man, making Naina's promotion seem like a now or never offer and she taking an eternity to take the decision to postpone it temporarily because there was too much going on in her personal life.

The media showcases male frustration of a neglected house husband as "male ego" but hails the female frustrations of a housewife (think of the family man scene when Suchi berates Srikant Tiwari for wanting recognition from his wife for his contribution as a father, in the restaurant scene on their anniversary) as deserving of great sympathy. Srikant Tiwari in family man, driving his kids to school, solving the school problems, doing repairs at home and even eventually rescuing his kidnapped daughter, in addition to his high pressure and high risk job was not enough. But Naina in Jug Jug jiyo, making breakfast and lunch for 1 person, before leaving for work is portrayed as, "usne apne pati ke liye kya kuch nahi kiya". And this couple didn't even have the responsibilities of a child.

Suchi at least had a stimulating career on the side where she received accolades to boost her self-worth unlike kukoo who was just a lowly, much ridiculed bouncer. Yet Suchi was always angry with Srikant. Even her cheating on Srikant seemed to be pardoned as the 'weak moment' of a neglected wife while a bored Anil Kapoor getting into an extramarital affair is labelled as "selfish".

In Jug Jug jiyo, despite seeing what happens to a marriage if the husband is a struggler, Ginny decides to marry a struggling musician she still "loves" after initially agreeing to marry a more settled groom. We certainly have double standards. Much of the feminist narrative is set by portrayals in the media and professional movie reviewers.

  2. This was a pathetic movie! I was told it was a comedy, but it never really was a comedy. All I keep watching is divorce and families breaking apart. I got a nervous breakdown after watching these horrible scenes of arguing. One disaster after the other. The producer deserves to be shamed up in public for breaking families apart, just because he doesn't have one of his own. Shame on him! Never recommend this movie to anyone!

It's also a shame they didn't have Meera killed off.
