When I first learned to design websites, I made a TONNE of mistakes & wasted a bunch of time. Sad thing is, I still see people doing the same thing today – here are 4 things I’d do differently if I was starting over as a web designer in 2023.

  1. you have no clue that you talking about – as a designer you always have to imagine how it will be built or at least understand limitations of css =) no matter which technology used – modern or anything like wp (whatever else) you always draw the interfaces O.o

  2. wow you got it so right, I'm from the Front Page, Dreamweaver, etc, etc days and boy……its soooo much easier now. I will check out more of your information, easy to digest and you have no idea how helpful.

  3. I have a always wanted to learn Web Designing and finally decided to start. But I'm completely overwhelmed by where to start since there are a lot of software like Figma, Photoshop, Illustrator. I'm going to take your word for it and watch your site builder comparison video and choose the one I think is best suited for me and start learning it. Hopefully, I'll understand what to learn as I go through the process.

  4. Your analogy of programming to 2003 design aesthetics is flawed. Web WYSIWYG editors have existed since the beginning (1995 Microsoft FrontPage, 1997 Macromedia Dreamweaver, 2001 Drupal, 2003 WordPress, 2004 Squarespace, 2005 Joomla, 2007 Wix), and have notoriously created viable but fundamentally limited websites. These platforms are great for certain websites, but they don't cover the full spectrum of web development skills needed in more complex environments. Learning the basics of HTML, CSS, and JS are invaluable and the foundation for more advanced work. Consider that someone already coded those "platforms" employing those languages, and you're simply leveraging their skills. I encourage you not to underestimate the value of them as they will help you realize your potential as a web developer, and viability to be hired in larger companies/projects.
