  1. I feel like the point about minimalist logos being more easily recognizable doesn't work with Firefox at all, and it actually backfired in the opposite way. With the old logo, you could easily tell it's a fox made of fire around the Earth, now it's just an unrecognizable smudge

  2. As an architect, I prefer to use the term precision. The precise elements, undress the design of the unnecessary. ^_^ Precision is not a trend, is clearity of mind, while minimalism is a trend.

  3. The Life of Pablo cover art doesn't look good. Anti-design is a movement that addresses the ever-increasing "rules" being "established" by trendy modern design. If you want higher chances of landing work, with a wider market of clients who have a larger wallet, you tend to follow these rules, as they are typically reinforced by corporate design practices based on market studies, along with some simplified design principles. Anti-Design's true value isn't in just going against all rules for the sake of the name of the movement, no, it's true value and purpose is about unrestricting these corporately-tuned design trends that are putting a chokehold on true creativity and homogenizing modern design work. There was another video about a Red Bull logo redesign you had, and that was the perfect example of why the typical modern trends of simplifying and reducing are becoming too prevalent and their true value is being muddied by oversimplification. You said that the Red Bull redesign was really good, but it truly wasn't. It resembled a simple graphic of a race track, in certain contexts it did look nice, and nearly professionally refined. However for what Red Bull is, it's image, it's history, it's bold messaging, that redesign made no sense. Sure it met the standard design trends of simplification and versatile recognizability across color schemes, but it was essentially a lobotomized version of the original logo. It lacked the character, and recognizability of the original logo, and thrown into a crowd of logos becomes lost and forgettable. The problem is modern design trends and the designers who follow them too closely is that they are going to take the heart out of the design process as a whole. Can you imagine Coca-Cola getting the lobotomy treatment, how that brand's identity, history, and experience would be reduced to a homogenized chunk of grey matter. Anti-Design is about opposing the suit-and-tie treatment of the creative industry. It's about recognizing that things are becoming soulless and stagnant. It's about ripping off that suit and tie, and remembering that design is design because of the creativity and focus on the human experience and how we feel about things. Sterile uniform aesthetics can be beautiful, and have a place in the world of design, but that's just it, a place, not THE place. Kayne's designs are generally terrible in that he lacks the real understanding of all this, and he is driven more by insanity and his own personal views, not a wide understanding of the evolution of design. You will find things like this being called Anti-design, but Anti-design as a design movement exists as a design movement, not an art movement, and the distinctions between the two don't inhabit the same space. Anti-design taken at face value can be like that album cover, but in a way, that cover is not good because it doesn't take that idea of Anti-design strong enough since there are elements of it that still follow design rules, and it's bad because how poorly it uses those rule. Anti-design as an art movement can take all the liberties against any design rule or rules that it wants, as long as it's intent involved going against those rules. Anti-design as a design movement is very different, because it still involves designing something in some way. The difference is the design movement is a rebellion against current design trends due to their increasing set of implied rules.

  4. An idea to cover in a new video (if you haven’t already): that would be ways that creatives or people just starting out can either gain exposure or feedback; basically ways you know of that allow participation in the design world.
    Thanks

  5. The anti-designs remind me of a more visual appealing version of anti-style graffiti in the way it just says fuck the rules and purposefully opposes them instead of breaking them, it’s interesting to see where “anti” things go in the future

  6. Too obsessed with distraction mechanisms. My time is worth more than your blipvert whizbangery. Your feeding into design thinking that picks people’s data-pocket while distracting them. Let’s just start calling the Big Tech direction of late Mindfuckery.
Why does your successful design agency require sponsors and monetization?
    Do you add value? Really?

  7. No really, minimalism is totally great, but when you have a look at the pringles can, it's an abomination. It's a step into false and nearly everyone knows and talks about it. And it has nothing to do with minimalism either. I'm not a pringles fan but I love great design. And to take it away from the logo, well I think it's clear.

  8. Another amazing video! Design is not only about how it looks and what it feels like. Design is also about its functionality, efficiency, and ease of use.
