  1. The cooler it gets, the less usable it becomes in my opinion.
Looks mostly like you're just scrolling through cool stuff without noticing what is actually there. Not actually learning more about someone's projects and experience.

  2. All besides Joshua Von Hofen website feels dull and soulless.
I understand that web 1.0 times had passed and all the traits that came with it, but for me the new "sharp" & "clean" design wasn't made by a person but rather an ai with perfect typography skills.

  3. currrently learning UI/UX – these website portfolios are beautiful and fascinating but wow some look cluttered and would easily overwhelm first comers to the website. unintuitive designs can put off people from engaging with a website.

  4. I mean, it looks sleek but seems so inconvenient to navigate. I honestly prefer older design styles where everything is clear, flat, and all easily in view at the same time.

  5. We’ve seemingly lost simplicity these days. Everything requires in-depth JS knowledge. Everything is scroll linked. And it all looks very similar. I look at these sites and just don’t think they look unique anymore.

  6. it's too fancy tbh. The best designs are simple and beautiful. i will say David's and Joshua's are amazing visually, although I did notice that most of the case studies are very short? it is like the focus of the portfolios are the visuals rather than the projects

  7. very cool! awesome!, i wonder how these portfolio's work on mobile and tablets!… Hey are there any good designs which work well on the devices like computers, mobiles and tablets? It would be very interesting!

  8. As a beginner designer myself, I was a bit surprised seeing the critiques in the comments. I understand the basic fundamentals of UX/UI design, however, just to put my opinion out there, I have to go against most of these comments.
These are portfolios. Not client projects. They are supposed to showcase all the neat tricks and design elements you have. Sure, some were more loaded than other portfolios, but each had their own epic style. If I was a client, and I saw one that struck my style, I'd hire them because I know their peak potential, all they'd have to do is fit my requirements and make it smoother, or simpler if need be.
I think we should just appreciate the hard work put into all of these and acknowledge how good they are! Regardless of "minimalism". There is time to be a grumpy critique, and another time to just be an admirer of art.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk <3 (Btw I loved all of these)
